Jean was married to John Joseph C. Gallimore in 1958; her husband predeceased her in 1999. Her brother, Terry O’Donnell, sisters Elaine Williams and Sheila Kunze and many nieces and nephews, survive her.
Jean leaves behind her four children, a daughter Christina Konyha/James, son John Gallimore Jr/Cindy, daughter Sheila Griffin/Richard and daughter Annice Rainone/Chris. Her pride and joy were her eight grandchildren Michael Konyha and wife Laura, Madeline Konyha and husband Charlie, Dylan and Nina Gallimore, Jim and Laura Griffin and Alex and Joseph Rainone.
Jean was a realtor on Long Beach Island for over 10 years. She went on to work for the Casino industry and before retirement, she was an original hire at Home Depot in Manahawkin, NJ. During these years, she lived in Surf City and Beach Haven West. Jean retired and moved to Leisuretown in Southhampton, NJ. After a hospitalization Jean moved in with her daughter Annice and then to daughter Tina Konyha where she stayed until her passing.
Jean had many friends on Long Beach Island and the surrounding area. She loved going out with her girlfriends for cocktails at, the then, Bayberry Inn and the Irish wake at Wida’s in Brant Beach. Jean and friends would attend the Ship Bottom Christmas parade to see their Mummer’s friends play at the Porthole. They were a fun and outgoing group of friends that shared many memories.
Jean took the lead at the annual O’Donnell Christmas parties. All of the family and friends would spilt up into 12 groups. Jean would then conduct the singing of the 12 days of Christmas with each group singing one verse. At the end of the song, everyone joined in to sing the last stanza. A family tradition that continues to this day.
A memorial gathering will be at Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin on February 11, 2023 from 10am until 12 noon.
