Born and raised in North Bergen, he resided there and maintained a summer home in Long Beach Township for over 35 years.
Prior to retiring, he was a Captain and Deputy Fire Chief in North Bergen for over 25 years. Howard was also a stagehand at Madison Square Garden, where he managed the Local 1 Stagehand Crew. A member of the Local One Union International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees for over 50 years, Howard was recently honored for his years of dedication. A multi-sport athlete, he was inducted to the Hudson County Hall of Fame along with his twin brother, Franklin. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time playing with his brothers. Howard also honorably served our country in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955.
He was predeceased by his previous wife, Linda; and his brothers: Franklin, Paul, and Ronald.
Surviving are his loving wife of 10 years, Sara; his grandchildren: Zachary and Alex; his step-children: Ronda and Jeff, Joel and Alissa, and Jaime and David; his step-grandchildren: Ross, Nathan, Sam, Elexa, Ari, and Ava; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 10:30am - 12:00pm at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, Manahawkin. A funeral service will be held in conjunction with the visitation at 12:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Waretown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Howard's name to the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company #1.
