William Franklin "Bill" Brown

William Franklin "Bill" Brown, 84, of Charleston, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on December 16, 2023, in Charleston. He was born on December 27, 1938, in Charleston, the son of Joseph Franklin Brown and Lillian Rose Whitlock Brown.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carlotta Sue Brown, and their three children, William “Bill” Brown II (Stacy), Christi Brown Spangler (Clayton), and David Brown (Mollie) and his grandchildren, William Brown III, Katilynn Brown (Joey), Aaron Brown and Mason Brown.

Bill graduated DuPont High School and later pursued higher education at West

Virginia State College. In addition to his academic achievements, Bill served his country for 6 years with honor and dedication as a member of the West Virginia Air National Guard. For over three decades, Bill dedicated his career to the DuPont, Union Carbide, and Rhône Poulenc chemical plants. His commitment and expertise made a lasting impact on the industry.

Outside of his professional life, Bill had a wide range of hobbies that brought him joy. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and a master gardener. He had an extensive knowledge of West Virginia flora and fauna that he delighted in teaching to the family. His willingness to share how to find nature's gifts of ginseng, morel mushrooms, huckleberries, gooseberries and more as well as the skills necessary to be successful in outdoor pursuits led to lifelong adventures. He also loved to grow and preserve his own grapes and fruits for wines and jellies.

He had a passion for taxidermy, carpentry, and woodworking and a gift for always being able to repair or fix anything. The only thing he loved more than his hobbies was his family. He was so proud of his Wife, Children and Grandchildren.

Bill found solace and community in his faith. He was a member of Coal Fork United Methodist Church, where he worshiped and found inspiration. He was also a former member of the Lions Club.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Mike Skiles and Pastor Paul Coon officiating. Entombment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

Bill's memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of dedication, service, and passion will continue to inspire and guide us. We are forever grateful for having such a blessing of being raised in a Christian home as well as for the teachings of solid values and morals. Thank you Dad for loving us and always being there for each of us. We love you!

Following the services at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, there will be a reception for family and friends at the Coal Fork United Methodist Church Activity Building.
