Rodney Thomas Morris

Rodney was born in Charleston on October 19, 1951, to the late Hugh and Maxine Matheny Morris. He was a member of Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church, a 1969 Graduate of DuPont High School and a 1991 graduate of West Virginia State University. He formerly worked at Walker Machinery, Kroger, Sport Mart and after 23 years, retired as a teacher from Kanawha County Schools.

Rodney had a great love for sports. He coached North East Little League Baseball and Campbells Creek Cougar Football. He also coached baseball, football, basketball, track and softball at DuPont JHS, Sissonville MS, Roosevelt JHS, East Bank HS, DuPont HS, Riverside HS and Nitro HS. When he wasn’t coaching, Rodney could be seen attending these sports and cheering on all the players.

Along with his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Morris; paternal grandparents, Victor and Alberta Morris; maternal grandparents, Earl and Alma Matheny; brother-in-law, Bob (Blondie) Bostic; and several aunts, uncles and other extended family members.

Rodney is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Joyce Lynn Bostic Morris; daughter, Kathy Jo (David) McMahan of Franklin, NC; grandchildren, Dylan, Savannah and Brooklynn McMahan; grandpups, Luna and Molly; sister-in-law, Trish Bostic; brothers-in-law, Kenny (Kitty), James, Richard (Vicky) and George (Tammi) Bostic; special friends, Steve (Terri McKnight) Crosier, Mike and Mary Moynahan, John Ferrell, Tom Gibson and Neal Halstead; and a numerous host of other friends, too many to list, whom he loved.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Campbells Creek Drive, Charleston, WV 25306 with Pastor Mike Long and the Rev. Steven Morris officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Church’s Facebook page. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church.
