Marvin T. “Buck” Mitchell, Sr., passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at CAMC Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. During his last days, he was constantly surrounded by friends and family who loved him dearly. He was born April 7, 1926, in Acup, West Virginia, the son of the late Denny Dean and Maggie Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his devoted wife of 66 years, Evelyn; sister, Mary Frances; infant son, Larry Wayne; and grandson, Adriane. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Brenda (Mike) O’Neil of Charleston, Beverly McCloud of Charleston, Tammy (Vincent) Hersch of Deltona, Florida; and sons, Marvin, Jr. (Kaye) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Charles (Linda) of St. Albans, Don (Martha) of Martinsburg, WV; and brothers, Cliff (Kay) of Charleston, Bobby Joe (Cleo) of Cotton Tree, Frank of Pinch and Murl (Sherry) of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren: April (Richard "Linc”) Symns, Diana Smith, Lori (Tim) Lee, Carrie Postalwait, Brooke (Jason) Sigman, and Zane, Zachary, Nicholas and Natalie Landers, Christie Perkins, and Jacqui Ranson; and great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Jaylen Symns, Thane, Evan, and Eli Smith, Rylee and Connor Lee, Cole and Anna Sigman, Landon Landers, Colin and Brendan Quinn, Abbie and Tre’ Perkins, and Garett and Zaden Ranson. He was a member of the Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church, where he loved to hear Rev. Mike Long’s sermons, and even more so enjoyed their visits together. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. When he returned home, he continued to serve his country in the West Virginia Army National Guard. He was a long time employee of Tag Galyean Chrysler, and for a time was involved in new home construction with Capp Homes. He retired from HOBET Mining and remained a member of the UMWA. Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014, at Spring Fork Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Long officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the services. A private burial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Quick Community Cemetery. Special thanks are extended to the staff of CAMC Memorial MICU for their professional and compassionate care and FMC Dialysis Center for the love they showered upon him. The family would also like to send the utmost thanks to doctors, Albeir Mousa, Reginald McClung, Edward Tiley and Asif Rahman, along with all staff members for the outstanding care and support given over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Marvin’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
