Sam was born in Charleston on March 13, 1947, to the late Gladys (Robert J.) Trigg Wright and Dunn Edward Bays. He was a 1965 graduate of DuPont High School and retired from the State of West Virginia Workers Compensation Division. Sam was a former Pastor for 30 years having pastored at Utah Mission, Mary Virginia Gospel Tabernacle and Goshen Baptist. He was a United State Air Force Veteran.
Sam is survived by his sons, Chad and Craig (Cindy) Bays both of Charleston; grandsons, Jacob, Joshua and Luke Bays; sisters, Diane (Don) McLemore of Avon Lake, Ohio and Trish (Roger) Cochran of Mobile, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon of Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Charles Hardy officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Forest Memorial Park, Milton.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Clark’s Christian Care, 145 Walnut Street, East Bank, West Virginia 25067.
