Kimberly Evans Kennedy, 58, of Charleston, passed away on September 28, 2014 at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a long battle with respiratory issues. Kim graduated from St. Albans High School in 1974. She received a bachelor’s degree from Marshall in criminal justice and a masters degree in counseling from West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. Her career spanned over several job settings. Kim was a county probation officer prior to becoming a federal probation officer. Later in her career Kim took much pride in her job as a women’s counselor at the Women’s Health Center.
One of Kim’s favorite job settings was working at the YWCA as a counselor where she led the Batterers’ Intervention Prevention Program (B.I.P.P.). Kim made a significant contribution to that program and supported her clients in their efforts to make positive changes. Kim was an avid reader and loved to keep abreast of current affairs. She was an ardent supporter of her political choices. She was happiest when she was at her family camp in Greenbrier County. Kim was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Betty Evans. She is survived by her loving husband, Leslie Kennedy II, brother, Kacy of North Charleston and nephew, Charlie Evans of Florida. She loved her dog, Sally, who was a great source of comfort and companionship. A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden on October 1, 2014 Family and friends will be welcomed at 10:00 a.m. with the service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with HR Whittington as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Casdorph Cemetery in Sissonville. In lieu of flowers, it would be greatly appreciated if donations were made to cover funeral expenses.
