Margaret Gilbert Denton, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away, Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at The Oaks of Lynchburg. She was the wife of the late Junior “Spud” Lee Denton. Born June 3, 1924, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Underwood Gilbert and the late Carrie Trent Gilbert Carroll.
Margaret was a retired employee for General Electric and a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by three siblings, James E. Gilbert, Thomas E. Gilbert and Cornelia G. Story.
Margaret is survived by her children, Roger Lee Denton (Shelby W.), Charles Wayne Denton (Loretta) and Delores June Denton; three siblings, Jesse M. Gilbert, Joseph E. Gilbert and Raymond T. Gilbert; six grandchildren, Dianne Phillips, Michael K. Phillips (Regina), Roger Lee Denton, Jr. (Sherry), Daphney Denton, Charles Wayne Denton, Jr. and Steven Earl Denton; nine great-grandchildren, Erika Esterline, Michael Esterline, David Lee Denton (Shelby M.), Matthew Denton, Spencer Aaron Denton, Tomasz M. Phillips, Klaudia Phillips, Wiktoria Phillips and Weronika Phillips; one great-great grandchild, Austin Lee Denton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Following the service, a reception will take place at Madison Heights Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2014, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence of Wayne and Loretta Denton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Heights Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
