John Dee Ferguson, 82, of Amherst, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Shelby Muse Ferguson.
Born September 19, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Luther William and Ola Mae Maxey Ferguson and was also preceded in death by one brother, Wallace Ferguson and one sister, Jewel Barbour. He was retired from B&W and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Tom L. Ferguson and wife, Elaine of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Donna Stratton of Forest and fiancé, Doug Joiner and Susan Pitsenbarger and husband, Harold of Amherst; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Stratton of Amherst and Andrew Graham Ferguson and Anna Grace Ferguson, both of Charlotte.
Mr. Ferguson is also survived by six sisters, Audrey Rigney of Vinton, Josephine Burks and Juanita Bailey, both of Rustburg, and Gladys Holland and Doris Kinsler, both of Hurt, and Willie Mae Butzler of Harrisonburg; two brothers, James Ferguson and wife, Lorraine of Gretna and Gary Ferguson and wife, Edna of Madison Heights and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. david Donahue officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
