Born on May 12, 1936, in Buckingham County, Helen was the daughter of the late Bland Withers Mays and the late Nannie Sue Mays. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Walker; one sister, Mary Sue M. Potter; two brothers, Morton Mays and Lewis Mays.
She had a love for working on puzzles and also enjoyed artistic painting. Helen was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
Helen is survived by her four children; Larry L. Tyree, Jr., Sheila G. Griffin, Randy Garnette, Kelly G. Barker ( Billy), one sister; Virginia M. Tatum, many grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023 with Pastor Anthony Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm at Altavista Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
