Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Byrd Gilbert and Vernie Austin Gilbert. Bertie dedicated many years of her life to her career, retiring as the Daytime Store Manager at Wilco, where her vibrant personality and love for people shone through.
Louise was known for her warm heart and genuine spirit, always making time for others. She had a profound love for animals, especially her cherished dog, Penny, who brought her immense joy and companionship.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Bagby.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Nelson, Jr. (Sue) and Michael Nelson (Sharon), along with eight adoring grandchildren who were a constant source of pride and happiness for her.
A memorial service celebrating Louise’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, with the Rev. Dallas Jones officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Fairmont Crossing for their compassionate care, as well as to her granddaughter, Cindy Morris, for her unwavering love and support during this time.
