Gloria Rose Smith, of Madison CT, died on January 5, 2015, at her home. Born in New York City, the daughter of Salvatore and Grace Ferlazzo, Mrs. Smith attended Hunter College, and was married to her childhood sweetheart, Frank C. Smith, PE until his untimely death in 1977. In addition to raising her family, she had a very successful career as an artist, working predominantly in oils, watercolors, and collagraph printmaking. She was elected to membership in Boston’s Copley Society of Art and her work is in a number of permanent collections, including at Harvard University.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Dr. Brian Richard Smith, and his wife, Dr. Keiren Donovan Smith, of Madison and by her beloved granddaughters Christine, Laura, and Elizabeth. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Phyllis and Theresa.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday January 7th from 5-8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. The funeral procession will assemble on Thursday January 8th at 9am at the funeral home and will proceed to a 10am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy St., Madison. A graveside service will follow at 2pm at St. Luke Cemetery, Hopkinton Rd., Westborough, MA. Memorial donations may be sent to Sacred Heart Academy, 265 Benham Street, Hamden, CT 06514.
