David Louis Stein of Westbrook, CT passed away on Saturday, November 23rd at the age of 76. He was born on February 20th, 1948 in New York City and lived on Long Island for 2 years before the Stein family moved to Westbrook. David graduated from Westbrook High School in 1966.
David worked as Land Surveyor for many years, founding Stein Survey in 1989. He was a beloved resident of Westbrook where he was also a member and eventually the Chairman of the Inland Wetland Committee. When he wasn’t working, David enjoyed being outside and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Muriel Stein.
He is survived by his children, Noah Stein and Sonja Sierra, his siblings, Betsy Turco and Jon Stein, his former wife and mother of his children, Anasuya Stein, amongst many other beloved family members and close friends.
One of David’s passions was riding his bicycle. After graduating high school, David rode his bike across Europe, traveling as far as Israel, where he met Anasuya, his former wife and mother of his children. David continued riding his bike throughout New England and locally in Connecticut as he got older.
In 2005, David built his home in the back 13 acres of his parents’ original plot of land in Westbrook. He lovingly named the house and land “Mount Tom” and spent his remaining years enjoying the serene and quiet woods. He described Mount Tom as “the best place in the world”.
David will be remembered by his kind, smart and funny personality. He was a bright light to everyone who was lucky enough to have known him.
The family will be hosting a small memorial service in the spring and will communicate details to family and friends closer to the event.
