Catherine Marie Mattei

She was born on June 13, 1981, in New Haven.

Catherine graduated from Branford High School. She then served with AmeriCorps.

Petty Officer Second Class (Master-At-Arms) Catherine Mattei joined the Navy in 2004. After initial training she was assigned to the Security Detachment in Sigonella, Italy. She then reported to Guantanamo Bay Cuba with the Expeditionary Guard Unit. Following her tour in Cuba she served at Navy Region Southwest Security Department. While at Navy Region Southwest she volunteered for an Individual Augmentee tour to Afghanistan. Upon return from Afghanistan she supported the HarborSecurity Boat detachment, protecting the San Diego waterfront. Petty Officer Mattei was an extraordinary, selfless sailor who was devoted to her country and her service. Her awards and ribbons include:National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (3), NATO Medal, Expert Rifle Medal, Expert Pistol Medal. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and served with her.

She is survived by her mother Debra Lodynsky and her husband Walter of Madison; her father Robert J. Mattei of Branford; her sisters Christine Lockwood and her husband Tom of Killingworth and Lauren Lodynsky and her husband Matthew Kennedy of Madison; her maternal grandmother Anita Loughrain of W. Haven; her niece Morgan Lockwood and nephews TJ Lockwood and Luke Anderson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday September 28th at 11 am in St. Lawrence Church, 7 Hemlock Dr., Killingworth, CT. Burial will be private.
