MACON – Thomas “Tommy” M. Holmes, 92, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at Emory University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Herbert Williams and Mr. Andy Asbell will officiate. The family will meet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Holmes, son of the late Leon Morris Holmes and Maysie Bryant Holmes, was a lifelong resident of Macon and was a graduate of Lanier High School Class of 1936. He served with the U. S. Army/Air Force during World War II. Mr. Holmes was an avid woodworker and was a draftsman retired from Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Mikado Baptist Church and had been attending Porterfield Baptist Church for some time. Mr. Holmes was a member of Fort Hawkins Masonic Lodge for more than fifty years. He was the brother of the late Maysie Baggarly.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Jones Holmes of Macon; his son, Rufus M. Holmes of Lizella; his niece, Kay B. Tabor of Texas; sister-in-law, Christeen Fields of Macon; brother-in-law, Claude Sellers of Macon and several other nieces and nephews.
