Suzanne Victoria McSwain passed away at her home in St. Louis, Missouri, Wednesday night, July 3, following an extended illness. Following a private burial at the Davis Family Cemetery, a memorial celebration of her life and a reception will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 3:00 pm, at the Federated Garden Club, located at 730 College St, in Macon, Georgia. A memorial service will also be held in St. Louis at a later date. The family may be contacted at Gloria McSwain’s residence.
Suzanne was born at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, on December 5, 1978, and raised in Macon. She was a dedicated member and assistant coach of the Macon Waves Swim Team, an honor graduate of the International Baccalaureate Program at Central High School, and a graduate of the University of Miami, where she received a B. S. Degree. Suzanne’s calm, kind demeanor and adventurous spirit were perfect for her 12 year career of working with children at various summer and year-round camps in Texas and Missouri, as well as being a coordinator for many Girl Scout troops in St. Louis. Most recently, she served as the Camping Services Manager for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, the largest Girl Scout district in the United States. In her work, Suzanne shared her love and enthusiasm for outdoor activities, such as boating, swimming, camping, hiking, rafting, and biking. She was a member of the St. Louis Jaycees.
Suzanne was predeceased by her father, Horace L. McSwain, III. She is survived by her loving husband, Louis Gabriel Woodhams of St. Louis, MO; mother, Gloria Hilley McSwain of Macon; sisters, Mary Virginia (Ginny) McSwain of Bethlehem, PA, and Lauren Hilley McSwain of New York, NY; aunts, Mary Grace Kimsey of Macon, Louise Van Damm of Marietta, GA, and Virginia Carson of Douglas, GA; parents-in-law, Frances Tietov and Elliot Elson of St. Louis and Richard Woodhams and Kiyoko Takeuti of Philadelphia, PA; brothers-in-law, Julian Elson and Eric Woodhams; numerous cousins; and her beloved pets, Mackenzie and Chloe.
