MACON – Ruth Odom Johnson, 89, passed away Monday night, August 2, 2010 at a local hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Lee Sheppard and the Rev. E. Y. Stokes will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. They suggest that memorial contributions be made to Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Mrs. Johnson, wife of the late J. C. Johnson, Jr. was the daughter of the late Clarence Ellis Odom, Sr. and Eva Mae Patterson Odom. She was a lifelong resident of Macon and attended A.L. Miller High School and worked as a Supply Department Secretary at Robins Air Force Base, retiring in 1976. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence “Buck” Odom, Jr. Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated Christian and was a lifelong member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church joining in 1937.
Survivors include her family whom she adored, her sons, “Skip” (Gayle) Johnson and Rev. Stephen N. (Connie) Johnson, all of Macon; five grandchildren, Jennifer J. (Steve) Slade and Glenn C. Johnson of Macon, John Stephen (Jenny) Johnson and Carrie Elizabeth J. (Rick) Baguley of Birmingham, AL and Kathryn Suzanne Johnson of Kansas City, MO; six great grandchildren, Jackson Slade and Gracie Slade of Macon, Jake Johnson, Lily Johnson, Michael Baguley and Benjamin Baguley, all of Birmingham, AL; her brother, Harold E. (Mavis) Odom of Macon and several nieces and nephews.
Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of arrangements.
