Robert Calvin Lewis, 83, is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior after passing away Saturday, October 18, 2014. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday at Mikado Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Cochran at 4:00 PM. Rev. Rusty Smith and Dr. George Palmer will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM Tuesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Mikado Baptist Church, Building Fund, 6751 Houston Road, Macon 31216.
Robert was a member of Mikado Baptist Church for 53 years. He loved the Lord, his family, and his church family. He was a deacon, a member of the Mathews Sunday School Class, and a member of the Glowing Years Program. He worked in the sound production for years, was property chairman, and vice-chairman of the building committee for the New Mikado Baptist Church in 1995.
Mr. Lewis was born and educated in Dodge County. After serving in the Marine Corps he made his home in Macon and worked in retail business, retiring from Lowe’s Building Supply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert O. Lewis and Pearl Giddens Lewis of Chester, Georgia and a sister, Laureen McCart of Atlanta.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Rogers Lewis; son, Bruce (Kim) Lewis of Macon; daughter, Ellen (Reggie) Sheffield of Eastman; grandsons, Ryan (Elizabeth) Lewis of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Philip (Rachel) Sheffield of Byron, Coulby (Anna) Lewis of Macon, and Andrew (Kimberly) Sheffield of Niceville, FL; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ailene Dykes of Cochran; brothers, Vernon Lewis of Lee’s Summit, MO and Bernard Lewis of Chester; one niece and several nephews.
