Robert Jessie Henry Campen, Sr., 93 went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Josh Gale officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 4256 Hartley Bridge Road, Macon, Georgia 31216.
Robert was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Donald Oliver Campen, Sr. and Rebecca Price Campen and was preceded in death by his children, Robert “Bobby” Campen, Jr., Jeanette Gurka, and Rhonda Flury; grandchildren, Christopher Soles, and J. Ryan Campen; siblings, Julia Holland, Lois Hill, Becky Woodworth, James Campen, and Donald “Spec” Campen, Jr. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Robert served in the United States Army, and was a long-time member and past District Governor of the Lions Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, past Grand Master, and served as Secretary for 29 years at the Lizella Lodge; and was also a member of Scottish Rite and Eastern Star. Robert served on the board at Macon Water Authority for 16 years, and was a retired school bus driver with the Bibb County Board of Education.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Long Campen; children, Elizabeth Starks, Richard Campen (Karen), Rudolph Campen (Karen), Jessica C. Rainey (Robbie), and Lisa M. Williams; 26 foster children over the years; grand children, Zachary Starks, Danny Campen, Lisa Bramlett, Christian Campen, Brandon Campen, Crystal Bentzel, Jonathan Campen, Jeremy Campen, Kristina Pryde, Amber Collier, Joshua Drew, Stephanie Fletcher, Justin Rainey, Dillan Soles, Madeline Williams, Conway Williams, Cameron Flury, Kyle Flury, and Parker Flury; many, many great grandchildren; siblings, Ann Pierce, and Marie O’Collaghan; and many nieces and nephews.
