Mr. Bob Kaney, Sr., 85, passed away Monday morning, October 12, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock, Thursday, October 15, at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow, in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Timothy Steffen and Rev. Dr. Rex Kaney will officiate. The family will greet friends from 4 until 6 o’clock, Wednesday, October 14, at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210, or the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Kaney was born on September 21, 1930, in Laurens County to Robert Pat and Izora Haywood Kaney. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Edna Braddy Kaney. Mr. Kaney graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in 1949. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Georgia, Mercer University, Ohio State University, and several specialized Department of Defense institutions. Mr. Kaney retired with over 35 years of service with the military and civil service. While assigned to the Directorate of Material Management of Warner Robins Air Force Base, Mr. Kaney served as Deputy Division Chief of the Armament and Missile Division, the Electronic Warfare Division, and the Management and Resources Division. During his tenure at Robins Air Force Base, Mr. Kaney received many awards, including the Electronic Warfare Pioneer Award, two Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service awards, and numerous Superior and Outstanding Performance awards.
Mr. Kaney was a charter member of the Shurlington United Methodist Church, and served as Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Board, and Choir Director. He also sang in choirs at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class at Martha Bowman.
Mr. Kaney is survived by his children, Marcia (Randy) Smith of Savannah, Bob Jr. (Sharlene) Kaney of Atlanta, Steve (Elizabeth) Kaney of Atlanta; grandchildren, Chad Gaudry, Brooks Gaudry, Christina Kaney, J.R. Kaney; brothers, Pat Kaney, Jr. of Albany, Stuart Kaney of Greenville, SC, Rev. Dr. Rex Kaney of Atlanta; numerous nieces and nephews.
