Maxine was a strong woman of deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She lived that faith through a life of loving care for her family as well as her service to God through Morningside Baptist Church. As a charter member of the church, she served many years as teacher of the Annie Stallworth women’s class and several years as church treasurer. She was involved in the community through her volunteer work at the Thomas C. Burke Foundation, Coliseum Hospital Gift Shop and the Cross Keys Lions Club. Early in her career she was an operator for Southern Bell then, while raising a family, she returned to work for over 35 years as a commercial account manager for Fickling & Walker Insurance and later Kaplan Insurance Agency.
Her greatest love in this world was her family and she took great joy in the times she had with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed her weekly bridge games with her friends from the ‘46ers’ of Miller High School. She was a master gardener and avid sports fan. As an excellent cook, her joy was in watching her family eat whatever she prepared. She loved animals and gained much comfort from her companions Lucy and Snoopy.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road with the Rev. Tracey Hipps officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Northgate.
