Leonard F. “Bill” Freeman, Jr., 74, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Laudis H. “Rick” Lanford officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon GA 31204 or Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon GA 31210.
Mr. Freeman was born on June 24, 1939 in Macon, Georgia to the late Leonard F. Freeman and Catherine Long Freeman Gassett. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Knight, Jr. and his mother-in-law; Rosina (Honey) Crutchfield. He served in the United States Navy. Bill was a member of New Heights Baptist Church and was a retired Captain in charge of investigations with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Peace Officers Association of Georgia.
He is survived by his wife; Carol C. Freeman of Macon, son; Trey (Michelle) Freeman of Athens, daughter; Lorri (Phil) Stembridge of Macon, grandchildren; Dylan Freeman and Anzley Freeman, Jeremy Gattie, Anna Kay Gattie, and Zachary Gattie, sister-in-law; Carla Black, brother-in-law; Wayne (Rhonda) Crutchfield, nieces and nephews; Brigette (Ben) Bishop, Lisa (Donald) Crutchfield and Wayne Black, III, and great nieces and nephews; Brittany, Ben, Blake, Dalton, Madison, Lexi, Megan and Jason and special pet dog, Katie.
