Joseph “Joe” DeFore, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Williams and Robert Webb officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkway Assembly of God, 5191 Eisenhower Parkway, Macon GA 31206.
Joe was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Bradley Brown and Emla Riggins DeFore. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Thea Weir DeFore and his grandson, Brooks Hamrick and siblings, Bradley Brown DeFore and Juanita DeFore. He was a graduate of Lanier High School class of 1952 and he attended the University of South Carolina where he played football for the “Gamecocks”. Joe was a lifetime member of the USC Association of Lettermen. He taught school and coached football for Lanier High School and was retired from Macon Technical College. Joe was a member of the Macon Touchdown Club and was an inductee in the Macon Sports Hall of Fame. Joe was a member of Parkway Assembly of God and he served many years on the Deacon Board with the Assemblies of God. He enjoyed meeting his friends at the Burger King and walking at the old Macon Mall.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his daughters, Madonna (Gene) Hamrick of Macon, Belinda (Bob) Wells of Rockwood, TN, grandchildren, Misti (John) Sikes, Brandon Hamrick and great grandchildren, Tristan and Spencer Joe Sikes, brother, Ed (Pat) DeFore and several nieces and nephews.
