MACON - John R. Harbin, Sr., 79, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Dr. Mark Grinstead and Pastor Gary Horton will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Harbin, son of the late Ernest Hoke Harbin and Inez Richardson, was born in Milstad, GA. He was a graduate from Lanier High School Class of 1950 and served with the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Harbin was an electronic technician and worked at Naval Ordnance, the U. S. Forestry Department and TRW. He was a Mason and a member of Mickey Fuller Lodge No. 720. Mr. Harbin was an amateur radio enthusiast and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He loved his family, his church family and his friends.
Survivors include those he loved most, his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Ann Pugh Harbin of Macon; his children, John Harbin, Jr. and Michael Wade Harbin of Lizella, Cindy Waldrep of Byron, Melissa Sellars (Joey), Suzy Harbin and Tim Harbin (Ruth), all of Macon; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; his sister, Merry Smith of Blairsville; brother, Larry Wade Harbin of Eatonton and several nieces and nephews.
