Annie Jacquelyn “Jackie” Chapman Mann 87, of Macon, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Pruitt Health on Peake Road. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday, March 19th, at 12 Noon at Forest Hills United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 4 PM at Pineview Cemetery in Pineview, Georgia. The family will greet friends at 11 AM on Friday, March 19th, at the church. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, 31210.
Jackie was born in Rochelle, Georgia to the late Maurice Elwin and Eulalia Wilson Chapman. She was the oldest of three daughters that included her two younger sisters Gloria and Maurice.
Jackie attended public schools in Rochelle before going to college at Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, were she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. After graduation she worked for the Bibb County School system for thirty-four years in elementary education at Virgil Powers, Morgan, and Springdale schools. She earned a Master Degree in Education from Mercer University, a Six Year Specialist from Georgia College and a Leadership Six Year in Administration/ Supervision from the University of Georgia.
Jackie was a faithful member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Chapman and Faithful Friends Sunday School Classes. She was a Life Member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association, Phi Delta Kappa – professional organization for educators, Delta Kappa Gamma – society of women educators, and Alpha Delta Kappa – international organization for woman educators. She was also a member of the Bibb Retired Teachers Association, Macon Study Club, Macon Exchangettes, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Board of Regents of Agape Village and Church of the Exceptional, Society of American Poets, and the Advisory Board for Mid-South Community Federal Credit Union. She represented Forest Hills Church and the organizations in a number of different capacities and leadership rolls. Jackie enjoyed writing poetry and co-authored books of poetry with her father Maurice.
Jackie is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, William “Billy” C. Mann, her parents Maurice and Eulalia Chapman, and sisters Gloria C. McCracken and Maurice C Laster.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Carol Mann Self (Christian) of Marietta and Kathy Mann Barrow (Blake) of Marietta; grandsons, Jake (Courtney) Barrow and Brett Barrow; and great-granddaughters, Ryleigh and Reagan Barrow; brothers-in-law David Mann and Jack Laster, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
