Jack Holt Gilbert, 87, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 in a local hospital. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 21 at 11 a.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street with the Rev. Tim Steffen officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery (Main Gate). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to donor’s favorite charity.
Jack was born on August 2, 1928 in Dexter, Georgia to the late Eugene and Eloise Kemp Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Eugene “Corliss” Gilbert, George “Wampus” Gilbert, Milton Gilbert, M. E. “Buck” Gilbert, Eula Waites, Evelyn Montford, Katie Lee, and Jean Minor. Jack graduated from Dexter High School and attended Georgia Military College. He served in the U. S. Army. Jack played minor league baseball in North Carolina and Georgia and played for the Macon Peaches. He was the Georgia Marble Champion, at nine years of age. Jack married Carolyn Cunard on August 24, 1957.
Jack worked in real estate, at the National Biscuit Company and for 30 years with McCormick and Company. He was a member of Riverside Golf and Country Club and the Brickyard Country Club. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn; children, Ronnie Gilbert (Melinda Stewart) and Lisa Gilbert (Ray Pippin), and grandsons, Zack and Wesley Gilbert; brother, Phil “Chicken” Gilbert, numerous nieces and nephews, and their cat, Sadie.
