Capt’n Harvey Milton Meadows, 82, won his final battle on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 6th at Parkway Baptist Church with burial at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bob Carey, Dr. Paul Meadows and the Rev. Josh Meadows will officiate. The family will meet friends on Sunday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono. The family suggests that those who wish to make memorial contributions to Hospice Care Options, 486 New Street, Macon 31201.
Capt’n Meadows, son of the late Harvey Floyd Meadows and Euna Rollins Meadows, was born February 14, 1934 in Columbia, Alabama and lived in this area most of his life. He was a graduate of Macon Vocational School where he was named Valedictorian. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department from ’59 – ’89 when he retired. Capt’n Meadows also retired from Sears after more than 29 years. Capt’n Meadows was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Director, Brotherhood Director and Church Training Director. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Meadows and his brother-in-law, Robert Bowen. He loved working in his big garden that he shared with family and friends. Capt’n loved serving his community, his church, his friends and most of all loved spending time with his family whom he adored.
Those left to cherish his love and his memory are his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Dean Meadows; his children, Randy (Georgia) Meadows, Dennis (Gayle) Meadows, Joy (Wayne) Shaffer and Dr. Paul Meadows; nine beloved grandchildren Joshua (Jennifer) Meadows, Jennifer (Matt) Dean, Brittney Shaffer, Kristin Shaffer, Tiffany Meadows, Makala Meadows, Tommy Meadows, Dakota Meadows and Austin Meadows; eight beautiful great-grandchildren, Trey, Sammy and Ollie Dean, Joshua, Josiah, Jubilee and Janna Meadows and Adalee Almendinger; his sisters, Frenchie Bowen, Genia (Hansel) Averett and Patcene (Hulon) Tharpe; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Capt’n Meadows’ family wants to express their deep gratitude to their Hospice caregivers for their professional and loving care during this time, Adrian McBride, Pam Anthony and Chaplain Hope Sutton.
