H. Avery Roberts, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 04, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior. Private entombment will be in the Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum. Rev. Ed Chambless will officiate. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon 31210.
Mr. Roberts was born in Jones County, Georgia, and was the son of the late Eula Effie Avery Roberts and Simon Logan Roberts. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Jewell Dean Love Roberts, a daughter, Linda Dean Roberts Dopson, and a step-son, Ray Kitchens. Mr. Roberts was a retired dairyman, having worked for Sunshine Dairies and Charlie Brown’s Dairy Farm. He was a United States World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the original crew which commissioned the U.S.S. Wisconsin. Mr. Roberts was of the Baptist Faith and was a born again Christian. Mr. Roberts enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, sharing poetry, and reading the bible.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Mamie Kitchens Roberts of Macon; step-son, Mitchell David Jones of Houston, TX and his 3 children, Mike, Mark, and Kim; grandchildren, Jay Dopson (Paige) of Snellville, Jennifer Dopson Hays (Greg) of Lawrenceville; great-grandchildren, Corey Dopson, Katherine Hays, and Dalton Hays; great-great-grandchildren, Landon and Hayden Dopson; step-sons, Wayne and Pat Kitchens; step-daughter, Elaine (Jim) Sellars of Lizella; son-in-law, Jimmy Dopson of Macon.
