Eula Heard Windham, age 91, of Sterling, VA, formerly of Cochran, GA died on February 1, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Leesburg, VA. She was born on February 3, 1919 in Butler, GA. Eula was the beloved daughter of the late William Guy Windham and Eula Beall Wilson Windham, loving step-daughter of the late Mattie Lou Bryant Windham, sister of the late James Milton Windham and Walter Bryant Windham, aunt of Barbara Wells of GA and the late Gail Windham Taylor, sister-in-law of Gladys Windham of GA, great-aunt of Robin Conran of VA, Pete Taylor of VA and Shane Edwards of GA, and also survived by three great- great nieces and nephews.
Eula was a well educated woman who made a career of being a college librarian at Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA. She received a bachelor’s degree from Georgia College for Women, a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in KY, and a Master’s in Library Science from Emory University. After retirement, she was able to pursue interests in painting, golf, and world travel. Eula was especially fond of her church family at First Baptist Church in Cochran, GA. She volunteered with many organizations including the Pilot Club. She taught Sunday School and led several church groups. In her later years, she lived with her great niece’s family, Robin and Christopher Conran, in Sterling, VA, and got to know her two great, great nephews and share in their family life.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 7th from 10am to 11am at Snows Memorial Chapel, 746 Cherry Street, Macon, GA, where funeral services will be held at 11am. Interment will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery, Macon, GA. Rev. Ken Brooks will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the First Baptist Church of Cochran, GA at 101 S. 2nd Street, Cochran, GA 31014.
