Ernest "Ernie" R. Mixon

Ernest “Ernie” R. Mixon, 84, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park with the Dr. Josh Gale officiating. Burial will be follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.

Ernie was born in Chester, Georgia to the late Jack and Pearl Mixon, and was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind W. Mixon, and siblings, Buck Mixon, Neva Goble, Hazel Short, J.P. Mixon, and Jackie Lassiter.

He graduated from Lanier High School and then served in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corp. and retired from Robins Air Force Base as a mechanic supervisor. He was a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church, American Legion, and was a Shriner. Ernie enjoyed sports and coaching. He coached football at Jessie Rice where in 1968 the team won their first football title in a 13 year history. He was an avid golfer as well.

He is survived by his children, Viette (Nell) Mixon of Macon, Vonda Mixon of Macon, and Venice (Bobby) Cofield of Macon; grandchildren, Tarey Mixon, Chris Bird, and Jennifer (Billy) Hanks; great grandchildren, Wade Cofield, Willow Williams, Emily Hanks, and Hannah Hanks; and several nieces and nephews.
