Mrs. St. Pierre was born in Valdosta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Victoria Marie Jonasson Drexel and Richard Jacob Drexel, Sr. and was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur St. Pierre; a sister and brother-in-law, Marion Drexel Pierson (Randy) and brother and sister-in-law, Richard Jacob Drexel, Jr. (Anne) and brother-in-law, Ed Bailey and nephew, Brad Bailey.

At an early age, Dorothy had a natural gift for composition and color. As a child her quiet time was spent drawing. She was a 1948 graduate of Valdosta High School and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Art at Valdosta State College in 1952. Her career launched after she ventured north at the age of 28 to the New England area where she became manager and purchaser for the art department of Cameracraft Shop, Inc. in Salem, MA. She also studied watercolor while attending Montseratt School of visual Arts in Beverly, MA, and Salem State College in Salem, MA. Dorothy enjoyed Plein air painting and would sit outside for hours painting or sketching the beautiful landscape or the many historical landmarks. As an artist she was naturally drawn to nature and the outdoors which led her to become amember of the local Moon Group, who met monthly to celebrate and admire the rising of the full moon above the harbor.
In the late sixties Dorothy developed an interest in creating stained glass and soon became a well-known self-taught stained glass artisan. Designing, crafting and repairing stained glass not only became her hobby, but also her livelihood. She was a member of several artists’ guilds, studied with well-known artists and won numerous awards and recognitions for her stained glass creations. For twenty years she managed her own stained glass studio, St. Pierre’s House of Glass, where she created and sold Tiffany lamp shades, window sun catchers, mirrors, weather vanes and so much more. As a certified teacher, she gave both private art lessons in her studio and art classes at the Peabody Adult Education.
In her later years, she retired to Monticello, FL, in order to be near her two sisters. Commissioned by the First Methodist Church in Monticello, you will find over the door leading to chapel and annex a beautiful design and construction, created by Dorothy, of a three part window arch that incorporates Christian symbols. Over the years she continued her hobbies of painting, crafting stained glass, fishing, golfing, swimming, flower gardening, sewing and spending time with her two sisters and their spouses. As a member of the First Presbyterian church in Monticello, she enjoyed worshipping and singing soprano in the choir. She was also a member of Jefferson Arts, Inc. where support for artistic activities and cultural undertakings are encouraged. For many years her constant companion was her special Golden Retriever, Tawny. Dorothy’s life was a canvas of colors and a reflection of light that will be missed by family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers and staff at Carlyle for their acts of kindness and love during her residency there, especially on her spicy days.
