Dorothy “Dot” Yaughn Haygood passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was the daughter Florence H. and Ladd Yaughn of Lizella. She is survived by her husband: James Harold Haygood of Lizella; children: Don (Sharon) Greene of Bend, Oregon, Wanda (Calvin) Mauldin of Lizella,; stepchildren: Erick M. Kelly of Salt Lake City, UT, Diane (Alan) Baca of Lizella, Linda (Jeff) Davis of Macon and Karla Harr (Brian Siebenlist) of Alexandra, VA; sister-in-law: Willie Yaughn, whose husband, Dorothy’s brother, Harris, died recently; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She retired after 37 years from Robins Air Force Base. She was a former Sunday School Teacher, pianist and organist at Midway Baptist Church. Mrs. Haygood organized and directed the senior activities program (Happy Hearts) of Midway. She also served as organist at West Highlands Baptist. Mrs. Haygood worked as a volunteer for Senior Friends (H2U) and the Cherry Blossom Festival. She was an active member of Vineville Baptist Church, the Lamplighter Class and the XYZ.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, March 10, 2014 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Holland officiating. Interment will be at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the : Vineville Baptist Church Endowment Fund, 2591 Vineville Ave. Macon, Georgia 31204 or the Midway Baptist Church Permanent Care Cemetery Fund, 1200 Moseley Road, Lizella, GA 31052.
