Dolores matriculated through Bibb County Public Schools. After graduating from Ballard Hudson High School in 1966, Dolores pursed a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Fort Valley State College. Upon graduation, she worked as a Physical Education teacher at Jones County High School. She furthered her education and obtained a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fort Valley State College. Dolores worked in counseling over 30 years with United States Armed Forces with tours in Atlanta, Georgia and Frankfurt, Germany, ultimately retiring from the State of New York. Lois was passionate about assisting others reach their potential. She loved holding conversations.
After retirement, Lois decided to come back “home” to Macon, Georgia. Retirement allowed her to do the things she loved: gardening, tracing family ancestry, completing home DIY projects, traveling, and spending time with family. She never met a stranger. Lois seized every moment to share life lessons to those who would listen.
Dolores was preceded in death by siblings, Edgar Ray and Karen Ray- Austin.
Affectionately known as “Lois” and “Auntie Lois”, Dolores peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Atrium Health Hospital in Macon, Georgia.
Dolores leaves to cherish her memories: siblings, George Ray Jr. and Carolyn Stubbs; nieces, Arlecia Sewell, Latrisha Mathews, Kimberly Ray, Amanda Ray, and Casey Ray- Austin; nephews, George Ray III, Edgar Ray Jr, Kelsey Austin; sister-in-law, Debra Ray; fur baby, Tinker Bell Ray and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Unionville Baptist I Edwin Mack Worship Center. Interment service will follow at Macon Memorial Park cemetery.
