Born in Macon to the late David Lee Davis and Rose Shaheen Davis, he attended Saint Josephs and Mount De Sales and then furthered his education at Emory University. He obtained his Masters degree at Georgia College and his PhD at Texas A&M University. He is survived by his wife, Linda Cole Davis who met while attending Mount De Sales. Together for 59 years, David and Linda were happily married for 53 years.
David is survived by his step-mother, Peggy Davis-Lidon and his brothers and sisters and their spouses; Debbie and Chuck Arnold; Rick and Debbie Davis; Luanne and Joe Lester; Clark and Janet Davis and Todd Davis; his three children and their spouses; David and Linda Davis, III; Sean and Amanda Davis; James and Kacie Davis; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Being raised as part of a large Lebanese, Catholic family, David valued family above all. He loved having everyone over and cooking a large dinner and telling old stories and laughing all night. Spending as much time together was important, even if it was just sitting down to watch a college football game. Being part of a loving tight knit family was important to pass down to his children. We always found our way back on weekends to sit outside and laugh at old stories and help create new memories. Watching David fall head over heels for his grandchildren was a sight. While David was known for being stoic, he would melt around his grandchildren. Watching him tell stories and play games with them on the ground and acting like a little kid all over again. He always made time for them if they wanted to have a chat with Grandpa. If he had his way, his family would have lived under the same roof for eternity (mom had other plans).
David would go on to teach and coach at his alma mater, Mount De Sales Academy and would later move on to higher education and teach at Middle Ga. State University. David was particularly proud of the fact that all of his children attended college and graduated with degrees. As a professor of Anatomy and Physiology at Macon State College, David helped teach many of the people that would become Healthcare Professionals in the Middle Georga area. If you wanted to go into the medical field in Macon, you most likely took one of his courses. David also had an effect with youth sports in Macon as a coach with the football program at Central City Park for many years. It always brought a smile to his face when kids he once coached as nine and ten year olds would later be seen playing on Friday nights for a local high school.
As a lifelong resident of Macon, David always wanted to have a house on water. Not long after retiring from teaching, David and Linda packed up and moved to Port Richey, FL and finally found his house on water. As the oldest sibling in his immediate family and the oldest cousin within his extended family, David was able to touch many lives during his lifetime. Whether as a son, brother, cousin, uncle, teacher, mentor, coach, friend, dad, and grandpa, he will be missed by all.
