MACON – Birddie A. Rountree, 73, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 in a local hospital. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Marty Pearson, the Rev. Marty Watson and the Rev. Wayne Rountree will officiate. The family will meet friends from 11 a.m. to service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rountree, daughter of the late George and Earleen Mosley Anderson was born in Lyons. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she will be missed by those she loved most, her family, her husband of fifty-six years, Herbert Rountree of Macon; her children, Vickie R. Heard (Freddie) and James Rountree (Ann), all of Macon and Lisa Flury (David) of Juliette; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Helen Nasworthy (Paul) of Pembroke and Eleanor Nasworthy of Kite; her sister-in-law, Debbie Anderson of Titusville, FL and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Benny Earl Anderson.
She was a graduate of Lyons High School where she was a member of the Beta Club. Living in Macon most of her life, she was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where she was active in the life of her church teaching the Senior Ladies Faith Sunday School Class. Also served as WMU Director, Vacation Bible School Director, Youth and Children’s Sunday School and as Church Clerk at the former Bethesda Baptist Church. Mrs. Rountree was an avid reader and was devoted to genealogy research. She enjoyed crafting, especially creative jewelry which she generously shared with family and friends. Mrs. Rountree loved to cook, loved to work with her flowers and enjoyed Blue Grass music and camping with her family.
