Betty Jean Harris McGoldrick died Monday, June 6, 2016. A Rosary will be said at 6:00p.m. Thursday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. The family will receive friends at her residence following the Rosary from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Allan McDonald and Father Vernon Knight officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Section in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests donations be made to Mrs. McGoldrick’s favorite charity, Middle Georgia Community Food Bank Inc., C/O Mr. Ronald Raleigh, 4490 Ocmulgee East Boulevard, Macon, GA 31217, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
Mrs. McGoldrick was born in Macon, Georgia to the late William Floyd and Anna Johnson Owens Harris. She was a graduate of Mt. de Sales Academy and was a recipient of the Mt. de Sales Alumni Award for year 2002. She was also a graduate of Sacred Heart Junior College, Cullman, Alabama where she served as president of Our Lady’s Society and Phi Kappa Delta Sorority.
She was retired from the Genealogical and Historical Room of Washington Memorial Library. Mrs. McGoldrick was a life member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Because of her love for genealogy and history, she was a member of several hereditary societies – Descendants of Colonial Wars, Daughters of American Colonist, Daughters of the American Revolution, Tennessee Pioneer Ancestry, United States Daughters of 1812 and United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Mrs. McGoldrick was predeceased in death by her husband, Joseph P. McGoldrick, Jr. and an infant son, Timothy Charles McGoldrick. She is survived by her daughters, Mary M. Myers, Cumming, GA, Julia M. Murphy, Thomaston, GA; three sons, J. Patrick (Cindy) McGoldrick III, Monroe, GA, W. Robert (Mary) McGoldrick, Roswell, GA and Phillip M. (Donna Kay) McGoldrick, Macon, GA; Twelve grandchildren include Alyson Cozart, Jason McGoldrick, Dublin, GA, and Daniel Frevermuth, Birmingham, AL, Katherine (John) Eubanks, Anna Kay (Stephen) Nash all of Macon, Elizabeth McGoldrick, Atlanta, GA, Amy Murphy, Katie (Rusty) Daniel, and Christopher (Brooke) Murphy all of Thomaston, GA, William (Christina) McGoldrick Jr., Summerville, SC, Marianne McGoldrick, Roswell, GA, Jamie (Shan) Mize, Cumming, GA,; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Scotty McGoldrick of Macon, and Peg Broker of St. Simons Island, GA.
