Mrs. Betty Dean McGahee Brinkley, 82, of Macon, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, February 8, 2013 in a local hospital. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 10, 2013 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Dr. Tripp Martin and the Reverend Matthew Brinkley officiating. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM till service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Ave., Macon, GA 31204.
She was born December 17, 1930 in Dearing, GA. to Mr. Forrest Columbus McGahee and Mrs. Mary Nevada McGahee and was one of eight children. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. and married Avery Baron Brinkley Sr. MD in May, 1950. After his service in the USAF was completed, they moved to Memphis, TN., followed by Mobile, AL., then Augusta, GA., and finally settled in Macon, GA. where they lived since 1957.
Mrs. Brinkley was recently preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents, and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Avery Baron Brinkley Jr. MD (and his wife Cara Parkman Brinkley) of Ocala, FL., and Reverend William Matthew Brinkley (and his wife Vickie Graham Brinkley) of Roswell, GA. and one daughter, Betsy Claire Brinkley Kendrick (and her husband Skot Kendrick) of Macon, Ga., two brothers Noel McGahee of Augusta, Ga. and Charles McGahee of Jacksonville, FL., 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Brinkley was devoted to and very proud of her husband, her children and grandchildren. She will be most remembered for her tender love and sage advice to her children.
