Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Chiles, Jr. joined his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2015 at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe McDaniel and the Rev. Stephen N. Johnson officiating. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. to service time on Friday at the church. Burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015 in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens, 5775 Frederica Road, Saint Simons Island with the Rev. Whit Chapman officiating. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorial contributions to Salem Methodist Church, c/o Glenda McLendon, Hwy. 87, Macon, GA 31320 or to Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Ben was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Chiles, Sr. and Frances Mims Chiles. He was a graduate of Mercer University and was a member of the ATO Fraternity. He proudly served in both the U. S. Army and U. S. Navy and was owner of Chiles and Associates Insurance Adjusters having served as President of Macon Claims Association. He was a loyal member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as Chairman of the Deacons, taught Sunday School for thirty-five years, was a member of the J. C. Johnson Sunday School Class and the Church Choir.
Survivors include the family he treasured, his wife of sixty-two years, Evelyn Jarrell Chiles of Macon; his children, Cherie (Ken) Hunnicutt, St. Simons Island, Kristie (Ron) Arp, Macon, Eric Chiles, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Tammy McBryant, Macon; his beloved grandchildren, Jason (Bonnie) Hunnicutt, Sarah Hunnicutt, John (Brittany) Winnie III, Rachel Winnie and Taylor McBryant; three beautiful great grandchildren, Henry and Annabelle Hunnicutt and Ryan Winnie; his sister, Vivian (Allen) Wall, Macon and his nephew, Don (Nancy) Dunlap.
