Alfred L. Woodard, Sr., “Woody” went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 12, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Len Woodard, Rev. Johnny Stevens, and E.Y. Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends Monday night from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Woody was born in Cedar Grove Community, Laurens County, Georgia to the late Luther and Eula Woodard. He is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wayne Woodard, two nephews, and several brothers and sisters.
Under Mayors Merritt, Thompson, Melton, and Israel, Woody served twenty-five years on the Macon Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant. He was a member of the W.L. “Sparky” O’Cain FOP Lodge #3, the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, and the Georgia Sheriff Association. He was considered by many to be the honorary “Mayor” of Tucker’s Bar-B-Que on Broadway in Macon.
Woody was a former member of Lakeview Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon. Later moving his membership to Mabel White Baptist Church, he served as an Usher. He was a faithful member of the J.C. Johnson Sunday School Class there.
He is survived by his son, Len (Caroline) Woodard, Macon; his daughter-in-law, Marcelle Woodard, Macon; his sisters, Clara Evans, Rentz, and Jeanette (Tommy) Self, Warm Springs; grandchildren, Chad Woodard, Savannah, Victoria (John) Washington, Gulf Breeze, FL, Cindy (Eric) Stewart, Macon, Lori (Daniel) Owens, Macon, Michael Redd, Cartersville, Curtis (Patti) Dunn, Knoxville, and Alana Harris, Byron; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
