Robert James Schoonmaker, 87, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018. Born October 6, 1930 in Rockford, IL. Son of Ralph and Dorothy (Lyford) Schoonmaker. Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. United in marriage to Jessica Mary Loveless on September 6, 1958. She predeceased him on October 24, 1994. Worked for the Anderson Automotive family for several years and then the Harlem School district in their grounds and building maintenance department, retiring after several years. In his younger years he found enjoyment in the outdoors hunting, fishing and golfing. He was an avid sports fan loving all sports especially the Chicago Cubs. Instrumental in the founding of Schoonmaker recreational area and park.
Survived by his children, Margo Miley, J. Dartt Schoonmaker, Jeff (Brenda) Schoonmaker and their family; granddaughter, Amanda Miley; son-in-law, Dean Nolan; brothers, Ralph (Bernie) Schoonmaker, Richard (Sandra) Schoonmaker; several nieces and nephews; life-long friend, Barbara Stanley. Predeceased by his parents; spouse, daughter, Jessica Nolan.
