Randall “Randy” Pitterle, 79, of Rockford, IL, passed away on December 8, 2023. Born in Freeport, Illinois on July 14, 1944 to Joseph V. Pitterle and Elvina “Toss” (Crosby) Hutchison, he graduated from Aquin High School in Freeport in 1961. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He worked as a machinist for many years at Woodward Governor and Arlan’s Department Store in Rockford where he met his wife of 51 years, Carolyn (Wilson) Pitterle.
He was an avid racing fan and never missed a qualifying, practice, or NASCAR race. He was a self-proclaimed weatherman and would never miss an opportunity to tell people about the weather forecast. Randy was meticulous about the maintenance of his yard and cars. Anyone who knew him knew that he was an expert complainer.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Kevin (Nici) Pitterle and Stacy Pitterle; grandchildren, Brayden, Landen, and Jorden Pitterle; brothers Dave (Cindy) Pitterle and Mike (Beth) Hutchison; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph V. Pitterle, and Elvina “Toss” Hutchison; and sister Mary Lou Miller.
A Visitation for Randy will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 10am at Sunset Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
