Joanne Gladys Broege, 93, of Machesney Park, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Born January 16, 1928 in Edgerton, WI. Daughter of Jarvis P. and Eleanor I. (Gray) Knight. United in marriage to LeRoy D. Broege on June 28, 1952. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1995. Joanne was employed at Nelson Knitting Company where they made the sock monkey and then worked for National Lock for 30 years retiring in 1982. After her retirement, she volunteered for several years at Swedish American Hospital. Joanne loved camping and taking family vacations with LeRoy and the kids. She found enjoyment in crocheting, reading, attending all the grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals and making them treats and being a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. No one could compare to her holiday baking and she missed making her apple dessert with LeRoy.
Survived by her children, LaVerne (Cindy) Broege, Cindy (Alan) Ludwig, Diane (Dan) Garr; grandchildren, Derrick (Kelsey) Broege, Brent (Angelica) Broege, Danielle (Antonio Diazdeleon) Broege, Crystal (Shaun) Relken, Andy (Kaitlyn Platt) Ludwig, Tiffani (Paul) Wollenburg; great-grandchildren, Everett Broege, Amiyah Relken, Cassidy Relken, Sawyer Relken, David Weber, Everleigh Ludwig, Elizabeth Wollenburg; sister, Mary Ann Strote; special friends, Doris Olson-Sutfin, Pam Parnello and Mary Lou Nyman; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; spouse, LeRoy; infant twins, Bobby and Barbie; brother, Joel Knight; brother-in-law, Ronnie Strote; special friend, Shirley Bauer.
Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 18 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Pastor Wendell Maynard will be officiating the services.
