James M. "Jim" Ashby, 58, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away suddenly and went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, July 16, 2024. He was born February 4, 1966 in Rockford, IL, the son of Edward H. and Doris (Bates) Ashby. Jim graduated from West High School, class of 1985. He was employed by Bergstrom for 36 years as an over the road trucker and most recently as a shipping coordinator. Jim was a devoted member of Woodlands Baptist Church in Loves Park, where he served as a volunteer and group leader in the addiction ministry. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he touched the lives of many through his service devotion. Jim's love for racing knew no bounds. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a regular at local tracks, where he could often be found cheering on his favorite drivers. His enthusiasm for the sport was infectious, and he shared his knowledge and passion with anyone who would listen. Beyond his love for racing, Jim had a deep appreciation for history and aviation. He spent countless hours reading about the past and exploring the skies, always eager to learn something new. Jim was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Above all, Jim was a loving uncle and a proud cat dad. He cherished his family and was always there to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear. His nieces and nephews adored him, and he was a constant source of love and support in their lives.
Jim is loved and missed by his mother, Doris; siblings, Cindy Huber, Phillip Steven Ashby and Bob (Kelly) Ashby; nephews and nieces, Mike Huber, Greg (Kim) Huber, Kimberly (Dan) Casey, Jeff Ashby, Kayla (Mike) Kleen, Maureen Ashby; several great-nieces and great-nephews; faithful cat, Mercy. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Ashby and brother-in-law, Larry Huber.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Woodlands Baptist Church, 5237 East Riverside Blvd, Rockford, IL 61114 with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
