Dorothy J. Burgett, 96, formerly of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2024, at Alden Valley Ridge Care Center in Bloomingdale, Illinois. She was born to Archie and Luby (Campbell) Randolph on July 8, 1927, in Bassett, Arkansas. On June 26, 1948, Dorothy married William A. Burgett in Wilson, Arkansas. In 1950, she and Bill moved to Rockford, where she began her job as a cashier at the Piggly Wiggly/Eagle Foods. After retirement in 1982, Dorothy and William moved to West Plains, Missouri, before moving back to be closer to family.
Dorothy was well loved and well respected. She took a great sense of pride in her work at the Piggly Wiggly, even earning Cashier of the Year on multiple occasions. Aside from work, she loved to stay busy with various hobbies including sewing, knitting or reading. She was known for reading the Rockford Register Star religiously every morning. When residing in Missouri, she was a part of the Mountain Home Quilting Club. While residing in Rockford, she was a member in the Cherry Valley Order of the Eastern Star. She also loved being out of the house, anywhere from a trip to the library or the casino. Above all else, Dorothy was very active in her faith, attending First General Baptist Church here locally, to her church down in Missouri. She made sure wherever she was residing, she found a place to practice her faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Cloyd), and Judy (Dale deceased); son, Jack (Lesa); 5 grandchildren, Joe (Rachel), Jeff (Allison), Jacob, Jon, and Marilyn; 8 great grandchildren.
