Earl Nelson Scroggins, Sr. (86) went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Earl was born November 30, 1934. Earl was known as a loving and devoted husband to his wife Mary Beth. They were married on December 14, 1951 in Houston, and shared almost 56 wonderful years together. Over the years they raised three children together and were blessed with grand and great grandchildren. To the grands and greatgrands Earl was known as Papa.
Throughout his life Earl served his country in the Air Force Reserve, served on the Gun Barrel City Council, and was very involved over the years with his church, serving in many roles including Elder. Earl worked for the Chrysler Corporation for 26 years as an auditor and manager in the Marketing and Business Development Division. He always faithfully provided for his family.
After retiring from Chrysler, Earl enjoyed many activities and hobbies including woodworking, fishing, gardening, family gatherings and travel.
When Earl wasn’t out working hard or doing maintenance on their home, he was spending time with his loved ones. Earl was a faithful member, for 31 years, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Gun Barrel City. Earl was a man who represented hardworking character, good morals, and one who loved his family very much.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Beth (Stringer) Scroggins; parents, Earnest and Allene (Spake) Scroggins; sisters, Murlene (Scroggins) Ferguson-Murphy, Mildred (Scroggins) Martin; and brother, Ray Scroggins.
Earl is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Scroggins) and husband Stephen Bales, Paula Scroggins; son, Earl Nelson Scroggins Jr.; grandchildren, Sarah (Bales) and husband Craig Parker, Jason Bales, Tracy Jewel Lucy Scroggins; great grandchildren, Hannah, Haley, and William Bales, Chloe and Caleb Parker.
Earl will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Visitation and funeral services for Earl will be held, starting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Gun Barrel City, with Pastor D.R. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas on Saturday, March 20 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are through Eubanks Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank, Texas (EubankCedarCreek.com)
