Donald Glen Whitten

Celebration of life services for Donald Glen Whitten, 80, of Gun Barrell City, Texas will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank, Texas with Bro. Don Bell and Bro. Christian Savis officiating. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 am.

Donald passed from this life on November 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 22, 1944, in Dallas, Texas to Daries Elmo and Lois Lucille (Hooper) Whitten. Donald grew up in Dallas before graduating and becoming an over the road truck driver and ordained minister. Donald loved the Lord and was a member of the Lakeview Assembly of God church. During his free time, he loved to fish and to play gospel music on his many instruments like the guitar, bass and harmonica. Donald was very talented with music and could play the guitar and harmonica at the same time to entertain his beloved family during get togethers while also enjoying all the food brought together during those times. He then married the love of his life, Sonja Ann Johnson on March 6, 1997, being blessed with 28 wonderful years together.

Donald is preceded in death by his son, Chris Whitten; parents, Elmo and Lucille; and his sister, Linda Whitten.

He is survived by his family, beautiful wife, Sonja Whitten; sons: Tommy Whitten, Chad Whitten and wife Andrea, Rocky Sandlin and wife Sherry; daughters: Jeneanne Newbre and husband Tom, Jeniece McClandess and husband Gary, Angela Whitten, Pamela Bohanon and husband Jeff, Angel Hargraves and husband Jerry; 26 beloved grandchildren, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
