October 8, 1941 - June 2, 2024
Hilda Arlene Johnson, 82, of Gun Barrel City, Texas, passed away on June 2, 2024.
Arlene, known affectionately as "Meme," was a loving and outgoing wife, mother, Meme and friend. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She was hardworking, strong, and always ready to experience life to the fullest. Near the end, she encouraged her loved ones to "have fun... have a party."
Arlene was born in Hartford, Connecticut on October 8, 1941, to Leo Fred and Simone Lefebvre Beaulieu. She met Arland Terrance Johnson when he was stationed on the east coast while serving in the Navy. They were married in 1960 and later moved to Texas where they raised their family and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Arlene's strength and determination were evident in her career. She returned to school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse, choosing to care for others as her husband, Arland, had been cared for after his accident. She retired from the VA Hospital of Dallas, where she proudly served for many years.
In her free time, Arlene enjoyed cooking for others, especially for parties, and was known for her crocheted blankets, ceramics, and beautiful porcelain dolls. She also had a passion for genealogy and studying her Canadian French heritage. Arlene actively participated in Bible studies, game days with church friends, Vacation Bible School, and fundraisers for her church.
Arlene is survived by her sons Arland Jr. and wife, Vanessa, Leon and wife, Suzan, and Chancz and wife, Annsley, her grandchildren, Brandy (Garry), Trea (Jasmine), Cara (Justin), Cody (Kaci), Lexie, and Landry, as well as her great-grandchildren, Trace, Sammy, Anelise, Griffin, Hudson, Pierce, Sawyer, Quinlee, Levi, and Cambree. She is also survived by her sister, Jeanette Rosenberry, and numerous nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Arland Johnson, and her parents, Leo and Simone Beaulieu.
Arlene worshiped at the First Methodist Church of Mabank and the Presbyterian Church of Mabank.
Arlene will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
