Thomas "Tom" Eastman, a devoted family man, esteemed veteran, and passionate community member, passed away on July 14, 2024. He was born on August 13, 1947, in San Francisco, CA, to Jesse and Monica Eastman.
Tom's life was one of service and dedication. He was a proud alumnus of Shorecrest High School, where he was a part of the wrestling team, and Washington State University, where he was an active member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. Tom remained a faithful Cougar throughout his life.
His military career was marked by honor and bravery, serving as a skilled helicopter pilot in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star and many other commendations. After retiring from the Army Reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Tom stayed connected to his fellow veterans through active involvement in the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association.
In his professional life, Tom excelled as a Senior Manager at Ford Motor Company, making a lasting impact during his tenure in various locations across the country. He started his career in California, then moved to Colorado, Michigan, Florida and then retired in Washington. He left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working with him.
Outside of his career, Tom's true joy came from his community engagement. From his many years involved in the Boy Scouts to his leadership positions within the Masonic Lodge, including his esteemed role as Past Deputy of the Grand Master at the Grand Masonic Lodge of Washington, Tom was dedicated to mentoring and supporting others. His influence was felt by the many Eagle Scouts he mentored, and this commitment was recognized with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from Troop 91.
Tom's greatest source of pride was his family. He cherished his role as a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Whether attending his grandchildren's activities with his trademark candy bag and Grandpa Sweatshirt or organizing themed family parties, Tom found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones. His legacy of love and generosity lives on through his devoted wife Lori, his children Angela Albriktsen (Kenny), Monica Garbutt, Thomas Eastman Jr. (Laura), and Mike Zirnheld (Collete), his 10 grandchildren, Sydney, Cameron, Kendall, Felipe, Olivia, Katelyn, Rodney, William, Ellie, and Bella, as well as his sister Judy Plunkett and brother Fred Eastman (Terry). Tom is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Monica and brother John.
Tom will be remembered for his generosity, graciousness, and unwavering spirit. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A visitation for Thomas will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036. A funeral service will follow from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. A graveside service with military honors will occur from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St,, Shoreline, WA 98155. A reception will follow from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Nile Shrine Golf Course, 6601 244th St SW, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.
