Scott Allen Miller, 62, of Snohomish, Washington, passed away peacefully at his home on December 10, 2024, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Scott was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, a brain tumor, in December 2022. Scott’s passing came after nearly two years of enduring treatments with his characteristic strength, optimism, courage, and faith.
Born in Bellingham, Washington on July 3, 1962, Scott was the son of Bonnie Kay Miller and Stanley R. Miller. He was raised alongside his siblings Shara, Shelli, and Stan in Des Moines, Washington. His mother and sister Shelli preceded him in death. Scott’s legacy lives on through his wife, Heather and their three daughters, Brittany Bowers (Tyler), Molly Gionet (TJ), Jessica Trimble (Ryan) and his beloved grandchildren, Asher, Elias, Tucker and Annie.
Scott was a proud graduate of Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, WA, and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Whitworth University. During his time at Whitworth, he played football and ran track and field for four years. Scott set records in both football and track and field that stand today and are proudly displayed on the Whitworth record boards. He later received a master’s degree from Lesley University, which further deepened his commitment to education. He spent 38 years as a beloved teacher specializing in Special Education and Health/Fitness. Scott taught at Marysville-Pilchuck High School,
Snohomish High School, Machias Elementary, and concluded his career at Centennial Middle School where he was also the Garden Club Advisor. Scott coached youth, middle, and high school sports for many years. Scott’s dedication to his students and community was unwavering, and even during his treatment he continued to volunteer with the Garden Club at Centennial Middle School, inspiring all who knew him.
In addition to his teaching career, Scott was an active and devoted member of The First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish. He served in numerous roles, offering his time and talents with humility and grace. Scott worked with the youth numerous times over the years spending time engaging with them, lending a listening ear, and guiding them through their young adult years. Each person mattered to Scott, and he always treated them with genuine care and respect.
Most important to Scott was family. Celebrations, monthly dinners, facetime calls, trips, and special events were always the highlight. Checking in with the girls and seeing grandchildren brought smiles to Scott’s face. Spending time doing puzzles, taking walks, watching movies, and sitting around the table together created many memories for the family. The grandchildren could do no wrong and Scott delighted in every minute he could spend with them.
Scott’s life was defined by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith in Jesus. He was a man who went out of his way to help others. He made a lasting impact on his family, colleagues, students, and friends. His legacy is one of love, service, and dedication to those around him. This legacy is reflected in Scott recently receiving the Whitworth Heart and Mind Award given to distinguished alumni who have demonstrated the university's mission to honor God, follow Christ, and serve humanity.
Scott will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his faith and kindness will continue to inspire all who carry his memory forward.
