Robert "Mitch" Lewis Mitchell was born on August 16, 1942. He lived a life defined by his dedication to family, community, and the simple joys of life. Raised in Pennsylvania and Sarasota, Florida, Mitch's early involvement in 4-H showcased his commitment to serving others, earning him recognition and a scholarship for college.
After his service in the Navy's submarine division, stationed in Hawaii where he met his wife Lenora, Mitch settled in Seattle, WA, embarking on a career journey through the banking sector, Lockheed and ultimately Boeing until his retirement. Retirement granted him the freedom to pursue his love for travel, from frequent visits to Whistler, to adventures in the British Isles, river cruises in France, and camping escapades in Gold Bar.
Mitch's commitment to family extended beyond his career and leisure pursuits. He actively supported his son, Cameron, in his Cub and Boy Scout endeavors, fostering bonds with fellow scouts and fathers through shared adventures like their memorable 50-mile hikes. Reflecting his playful nature, when his kids were young, Mitch fondly entertained his children, Jennifer and Cameron, with imaginative activities like hallway sledding on a makeshift sheet.
Relocating to Maple Valley after five decades in Kirkland, Mitch found joy in the camaraderie of his new neighborhood, cherishing weekly social gatherings and men's breakfasts. His beloved companion, Zoey, brought joy to his daily walks and made friends along the way.
In recent years, Mitch rekindled connections with his sister Glenda and niece Lisa, enriching his familial ties through the help of Ancestry. As a devoted grandfather, Mitch took pride in attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events. Through his marriage to Lenora, Mitch found himself embraced by a large, loving family.
We love you and you are truly missed.
Mitch is survived by his devoted wife, Lenora, children Jennifer (spouse Mitch), Cameron (spouse Sofie), grandchildren Christo, Elias, and Stavros, and extended family.
A service honoring Mitch's life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mitch's honor may be made to the Maple Valley Food Bank.
